The Bangladesh men’s cricket team stoop to a new low after they lost the third T20I of the three-match series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by seven wickets on May 21 (Wednesday) in Sharjah and conceded the series 1-2.
This was the second instance of the Tigers losing a series of more than one game to an associate nation, having previously lost a three-match T20I series to the USA by the same margin in 2024.
With this loss, Bangladesh also became the first full-member team to lose a T20I series to two different associate nations. Previously, Zimbabwe had lost two series, but to the same opposition, Namibia.
If a one-off game is counted, then UAE will become the third team after Scotland (2012) and the USA to win a series against Bangladesh.
The series was levelled at 1-1 after Bangladesh won the first game and UAE the second, chasing down a record target of 206 in the second match. In the third and final match, Haider Ali bowled immaculately, giving away just seven runs and picking up three wickets in his four overs.
Bangladesh could only make 162/9 in their 20 overs, which UAE chased down with seven wickets in hand and five balls to spare. This was the first assignment for Litton Das as Bangladesh’s full-time captain.
