Najmul Hossain Shanto became the first-ever Bangladesh captain to score a fifty in the ICC Champions Trophy. Shanto got to his fifty off 71 deliveries. This was also his 10th fifty in One-Day Internationals (ODI). He achieved this feat in the ongoing match against New Zealand in Rawalpindi.
Opening the innings for Bangladesh, Shanto first put up 45 off 50 for the first wicket with Tanzid Hasan. However, after that, Bangladesh have lost wickets at regular intervals and find themselves in a spot of bother. Shanto has, however, kept one end steady.
Shanto is only the second Bangladesh captain after Shakib Al Hasan to score a fifty in ICC ODI events.
Shakib Al Hasan 55 vs India in Mirpur, 2011
Shakib Al Hasan 82 vs Sri Lanka in Delhi, 2023
Najmul Hossain Shanto 50* vs New Zealand in Rawalpindi, 2025
Shanto will hope to get a big score on the board as Bangladesh need to win this game to stay alive in the Champions Trophy. They lost the first game of the competition against India by 60 runs in Dubai.
