West Indies left Australia in tatters after they bowled the visitors out for 180 in just 56.5 overs on Day 1 of the first Test of the three-match series, taking place at Bridgetown in Barbados.
Wrecker in chief for the West Indies side was the pace duo of Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales, who between themselves picked up nine wickets with Seales claiming a fifer.
However, it was Joseph who had a perfect set-up to dismiss Australian opener Sam Konstas, which started the Australian freefall, which was arrested to an extent by Usman Khawaja and Travis Head, but only just for a moment before it was all over eventually.
Seales explained how India played a huge role in that dismissal, saying that the team planned about Konstas after watching him play against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.
"Watching the Australia and India series, he looked like he had a bit of a weakness with the ball coming back, and we just knew that we needed to exploit it as much as possible," said the 24-year-old.
Travis Head, who was the leading run-scorer for the Aussies, said that it was a difficult wicket to bat on and was proved when the West Indies were also four down by the end of the day’s play in Barbados.
"A challenging day and a different wicket than what both teams expected, as both teams were going to bat (if they won the toss). Two good-quality seam attacks, and they got something out of (the wicket),” he said.
With West Indies 56/4, Day 2 seems to be an even more interesting one as the hosts trail by 123 runs.
"(There were) no surprises in what they were able to bring and get things out of the wicket, but vice versa. We were able to do the same thing in the evening, and it makes for an important couple of hours in the morning,” Head said.
