West Indies Test Star Punished By CWI For Ball Tampering
He has played 9 Tests for the Windies, with his last appearance coming in 2022
Veerasammy Permaul, who has played 9 Tests for West Indies, is among two players punished by Cricket West Indies (CWI) for tampering with the ball in a first-class game between Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago in Port of Spain. Along with Permaul, another Guyana player Kevlon Anderson has also been punished by CWI for ball tampering during the aforementioned first-class game.
Permaul has been fined 75 percent of his match fee for a Level 2 breach of the Cricket West Indies Code of Conduct on day one of the contest. Meanwhile, Anderson has been fined 90 percent of his match fee for a similar offence.
Article 2.1–2.5; Paragraph 3.8 of the CWI Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, relates to “changing the condition of the ball in breach of Law 42.3. of the Laws of Cricket.”
Medium pacer Ronaldo Alimohamed, meanwhile, has been fined 65 percent of his match fee for a Level 2 breach of the Cricket West Indies Code of Conduct. The medium pacer breached Article 2.1–2.5; Paragraph 3.6 of the Code of Conduct – “Throw the ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near player or official in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner.”
According to CWI, Alimohamed initially denied the charge, but was later found guilty and punished thereafter.
Unlike Alimohamed, both Permaul and Anderson accepted the sanctions imposed by the Match Referee.
As it turned out, Guyana were still unable to produce a result, with the match ending in a draw.
